There’s a saying you might have heard:


"Objections come in bunches."


Which is only true if you're not engaging real Strategic Persuasion.


Unfortunately, every sales or negotiation model I've seen misses the boat with assumptions like this (and If you’ve ever run into the same problems no matter what sales model you use, then you know what I mean)…


All these other sales models fall under one umbrella that I'll call:

The Needy "Tactic-Based Sales Pitch" Model:

  Step 1 - You begin the conversation with small talk at length about the weather, where they're from, and blah blah blah... thinking that this "builds rapport."

  Step 2 - You try to transition into figuring out their pain. And then you dig deep into this pain until the person gets all caught in negativity. Meanwhile, you assume that the fear you're building in them will actually help you persuade them... instead of build resistance that shows up later.

  Step 3 - You attempt to lead them out of this hellscape you put them in by using logic. You try to create gaps in logic, then persuade them of your worldview by invalidating theirs. Of course, this just builds more resistance because you're coming up against the fundamental ways in which they view the world--a recipe for objections.

  Step 4 - Once you've "logic-ed" them to death... now you go into pitch mode because you probably assume that the logic brought them out of the negativity you put them into. So you focus on the logical solutions that your solution provides. This whole time, they're still cycling through the negativity you placed them in to begin with.

  Step 5 - You come up against almost endless layers of resistance, likely not realizing that these objections and negative beliefs are a direct result of placing them in a fear-based MindState, then invalidating their worldview... so you go into "OBJECTION OBLITERATION" alligator-wrestling mode because that's what you've been taught is the thing to do.

  Step 6 - You put on the brass knuckles and attempt to fight for your life with objection handling tactics in order to gain back the position of Trusted Authority... even if your tactic is to arm-wrestle their objections with a limp-wristed and passive-aggressive, super "thoughtful" tonality.

  Step 7 - You probably end up with either someone completely dismissing you... or feeling bad enough for you that they make a lame excuse that you know is BS... but they're just completely turned off. And before you know it... Rejection! On to the next one!

The Needy "Tactic-Based Sales Pitch Model" not only sucks, but keeps perfectly capable professionals stuck for years - forcing them to earn far less than they are worth... while working their ass off.


To be honest…


...A lot of people give up on this whole “solution-selling” idea.


I mean, they could just not deal with people and find some way to isolate themselves from enjoying the process of helping people break-through their current blocks and move forward into the life they really want...

And the truth is:

Even after learning countless sales methods that all amounted to about the same thing... I had the same experience--though I didn't consider myself to fit within the role of a typical "salesperson."

And ever since I was first introduced to Erickson's work...


I KNEW the answer to this problem would come from decoding his language and worldview-transforming strategies.

…But before I gave up on finding a better way and closed the doors...

I’d like to introduce myself and tell you about how all this came to be.


My name is Kenrick Cleveland.


You may not have heard that name before. That’s by design.


My life’s pretty great…I have a beautiful wife, a daughter who's going off to college, and a 5 year old son.


I was originally born in Seattle, Washington.. but I ultimately chose to move to Nicaragua for my long-term home.

As We Get To Know Each Other… You’ll Quickly Realize How I Get to live my dream Life daily - So Let’s Talk About Where I Was On November 3, 1978

It was just after my 19th birthday… and unfortunately, things had gone terribly wrong.


I was completely lost.


The crazy part was…


A few months before this, I was working as the sales manager at a health spa, leading a team of dozens of people and making over $100,000 per year back in the 1970s.


And just when I thought my life couldn’t get any better…


It all fell apart.


In my complete focus on maintaining the success I had... I totally neglected my personal life.

My sales and leadership skills were nowhere near their potential.


I felt entirely lost and like my life was over.


I knew that I had to massively improve my skills because the hours I was working didn't make up for the time and energy it stole from me.


Long hours, doors getting slammed in your face constantly…


I knew there had to be a better option.


I even thought about going back to university to get a degree in something more stable…


And a steady 9 - 5 job… just like I was told to do at school.


But after my success came plummeting down out of nowhere…

I knew that nothing was guaranteed.


And if I wanted a life of freedom, fulfillment and adventure, aiming to win the same game everyone else is playing... is a losing idea.


I know, because I tried.


I gave it everything I had.


I gave it my BEST shot.


And it didn’t work.


Because I played by the typical rules of selling and I did everything right…

I ended up Staying at the 9-5 Job, Relying on Tactic-Based selling At The health and wellness spa, Soon Realizing That I Hated It…

I hated it because I knew if I stayed there - that job would become my identity and all my hopes, goals and dreams would be put aside to fulfilling my role in that job.


I had goals, dreams and aspirations...

I wanted more out of life...


...and the tactic-based selling at the health spa trained me to commoditize myself and my clients...

...encouraging me to pressure them into buying even when the solution didn't fit...

...and change their mind about what they really want just for the sake of increasing my own sales. 


So I did what everyone else out there does in this situation.


I started looking for a way out.


I looked everywhere and a few months later I found it.


I stumbled upon an event that was running in Seattle, where a man named Richard Bandler was teaching “How to Use Language to Influence the Mind”.


The event shared the latest strategic models of Milton Erickson's life work for enacting lasting change through language.


I didn't know it at the time, but Richard Bandler was a co-founder of NLP... and that there was a whole movement behind this study of what people now call "change-work."

I learned that a small group of thought-leaders were working together to make sense of how some of the top hypnotherapists and change-workers in recent history (Milton Erickson being the most influential) were able to help their clients experience breakthrough insights... just with their words.


This was a cool concept to me, and as I researched more and more, I found that the core group of these people studying Milton Erickson's work were making huge progress... BUT...

They couldn't seem to make their models fit smoothly and conversationally into the world of business.

See, Milton Erickson worked in a therapeutic setting where the dynamic was obvious:

The therapist was the leader and authority while the client knows that they are going to be led toward some kind of breakthrough change.

In other words, therapy clients WANT their beliefs and worldview to change.

On top of that, it took several--sometimes a dozen or more--long sessions for Erickson to achieve the necessary shift in worldview that brings about lasting change.

These were the biggest reasons that NLP has always struggled to bring Erickson's genius to the world of business.

Despite these struggles, NLP's findings did make their way into mainstream business communication over time.


But, many of these therapeutic principles formed faulty foundations in the context of business.

For example, Rapport Building.

This is a strategy that Erickson used to build trust from his clients--at least that's what it seemed like.

But this doesn't really translate into business because you don't have time to waste with chit-chat like that.

What Erickson was actually doing in those "Rapport-Building" stages of his therapy was inducing a DreamState...

A state of mind where brain activity releases from its familiar loops.

By activating typically separate regions of the brain through specific language, and by speaking in certain tonality and rhythms...

New associations form in the brain.

On a conceptual level, the person's worldview begins to reshape in real time...

INSTEAD of their brain firing in the typical loops that sort of "react" to the worldview they're already comfortable with.

THIS DreamState... it's what you can induce WITHOUT all the back and forth small talk...

And instead, set various "frames" or boundaries for the conversation and dynamic...

Setting into place the same kind of expectation that YOU are the trusted authority... and THEY are following along with you as you subtly lead them.

Now, what Erickson did through what most people call "Rapport-Building" is understand how that person views the world...

He listened for specific layers of that person's worldview.

And over the course of each session, Erickson fit himself and what he did WITHIN their already existing worldview...

All the while, subtly shifting these layers in strategic ways for a smooth and comfortable experience that feels almost like a movie or a "Dream."

That's right, all the while this process is happening, the client feels as comfortable as if they are off in Dream-Land...

Building a new worldview in their mind that supports more easily making those dreams reality.

THAT entire process I just described...

Most of what I learned early on is that pushing the pain while somehow being their friend was the only way.

Which are two basic assumptions that are dead wrong.


And when I discovered that is one of the many primary sources of objections and resistance...

My deep commitment to uncovering real strategy that brings consistent results, no matter the context, niche, industry, or offer...

That commitment to myself and the world only grew stronger.

And even though, at that time, I led the health and wellness spa in sales on a national level...


I hardly had any sense of direction, consistency or reliability.

Each solution-selling conversation felt more like improvisation than a real process, system or framework.


Looking back, those first years of my selling life were brutal...


60-80 hour weeks.


Late nights.


Stress.


Chasing sales instead of genuinely leading, dealing with the problems my own neediness caused, putting myself in a one-down position, and feeling like I was caught in a monkey-dancing routine.


Because I was a "Tactical Pitcher" and built myself a job I was stuck in...


That was my life and I was ready to quit.


But thankfully, I didn't...because…

It was in that discomfort that I finally made the commitment to becoming a Strategic Persuader, instead of just another Tactical Pitcher.

That was 46 years ago, because fast forward to today and it almost
seems like a bad dream

I proved the idea of “following the traditional Tactic-Based Sales Pitch models” to be all wrong…

Instead of practically beginning every sales conversation blind, trying to push my own worldview on others who didn't even ask for that (this is what I worked my tail off for?)…


Now, I'm located in my favorite spot on planet earth, just a 10 minute drive from a massive volcano (in the heart of Nicaragua)..

Don't worry, this volcano is dormant. And yes, this is a volcano, not some other "green vegetation" LOL ;)

Should I already have an offer to sell before I get this?

While it would definitely be quicker to apply the secrets of this book if you already have an offer to sell...

It is also wise to begin learning how to persuade before you find yourself in a position to critically need to succeed immediately.

It's also what attracts many of the less serious "salesy" types to always search for the next hack, gimmick, or tactic that will shortcut the depth of learning that leads to lasting success.

In fact, it's more helpful to focus more on your Solution vs. Offer. Because thinking of potential solutions to any number of problems is far more in line with persuasion than how most people think of "offers."
